ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born in France, Aya was quickly swept away to spend his earliest years in the goddess energy of Magadascar, a land and a time where all senses were woven together in a magical synaesthesia of beauty.

Returning to France for his education, Aya found little time to explore the arts, having been guided into serious socio-cultural tracks, and all the while he sensed his destiny was escaping him.

His first real artistic activation occurred in Singapore, where he was Assistant to the Cultural Attache at the French Embassy. It was during this time of financial security that Aya was able to open the doors of his creativity. It was during this time that Aya began to recognize he was an artist. Wandering for a year through India, Nepal, Afghanistan, led him back to a France that he was unfamiliar. Eventually the journey led him to Soho, New York, and then to California's Bay area, where Aya sought the union of Spirit, Art and Culture. Traveling back and forth between the US and Europe, he became an ambassador of new global ways, grounded in peace and respect for life.

Mandalas, as tools for meditation, were pointing Aya to the direction of Oneness. But it was not enough for him to know of the sacred art ways of established traditions. What he wanted was to keep and honor their spirit while re-creating new forms, colors and symbols that would speak to the people in this contemporary global culture. In 1985, he was settled in Santa Monica canyon when the StarWheel Vision came. It was in response to a spirit quest and completely focused Aya on birthing the StarWheel family. At the rate of one painting per two months, a successive series of twelve StarWheel mandala paintings have been created.
