Bringing our lives into balance The sun entered Libra on September 22, initiating the Autumn Equinox, a time when the days and nights are of equal length, and the Earth's energy supports us to bring our lives into balance. Symbolized by the woman holding the scales of justice, and ruled by Venus, the Goddess of love, Libra represents the qualities of harmony, and the necessary adjustments needed to bring relationships into equilibrium. A cardinal air sign, Libra is social, communicative, peace loving, and artistic. People with the sun, moon, or rising sign in Libra seek a harmonious life, often avoiding confrontation at all costs. But Libran's also have an explosive temper, and will fight when pressed. Following our heart's wisdom Because the balance point of light and darkness, male and female, yin and yang happens in the Libra star field, October is an excellent month to initiate activities that will bring some aspect of our lives into harmony. The month begins with some challenging planetary aspects that are highlighted by the full moon in Aries on October 2. The planet of love, Venus, involves us in some deep soul searching about our beliefs, and the quality of our relationships. Disagreements with others are most likely when we forget to communicate from our Spirit, and expect to mentally resolve issues. Hopefully, the leaders of our world's nations are learning this now. In any dispute, allowing our deepest truth to speak and following our heart's wisdom will bring balance and resolution. Inner reflection brings clarity The planet symbolizing communication, Mercury, begins apparent backwards motion (termed "retrograde") on October 1. Mercury retrograde slows down our normal pace of communication, giving us an opportunity to review the previous cycle and make necessary adjustments, or complete unfinished business. This period lasts for three weeks, and it is best to avoid starting new projects, signing new contracts, or initiating relationships during this time. Retrograde in the sign of Libra, Mercury gives us the opportunity to reflect on all relationships: personal, business and global. This period of reflection provides the possibility of acting with more clarity and wisdom in the future. New moon brings fresh perspective On October 16, we have a new moon in Libra, bringing us a fresh outlook, new ideas, and helping us find the balance we seek in our lives. We may have recently taken on more than we can carry, and find ourselves overextended in both our business and home life. The Libra new moon brings a fresh perspective on our values and resolution of disputes. Venus moves into her own sign of Libra, and we find ourselves devoting more time to romance and healing relationships, which will restore balance in our lives. Humanity's wake-up call Several planets change apparent direction in the latter part of October, creating another shift in the ongoing unfoldment of our experience in the third dimension. Neptune, the planet of higher realms, dreams, and spirituality, comes to direct motion in Aquarius on October 17, followed by Mercury turning direct in Libra on October 23, and finally, Uranus, the awakener to higher states of consciousness, turns direct in Aquarius on October 30. What this means, in the aftermath of humanity's recent gigantic wake up call, is that we now have the opportunity to start appreciating the reality of a global community. Uranus and Neptune, traveling direct in Aquarius, the sign of the humanitarian, give us the vision to see how to create a new world order. Sun in Scorpio brings transformation The sun completes its transit of Libra, entering the mysterious sign of Scorpio on October 23. After perhaps having found a precarious balance in our lives through the Libra sojourn, Scorpio now plunges us into the depths of our psyche for an expression of the underworld, the subconscious, and the shadow. Sun in Scorpio takes us through the fires of transformation, moving us to higher levels of consciousness, if we are willing to embrace the totality of our humanness. Sun Signs for October 2001
