By Carolina Eastwood DECEMBER 2000
The sun entered Sagittarius on November 21, taking us into the last month of the autumn season. The sign of the centaur, half horse and half man, Sagittarius blazes a trail into a discovery of the unknown. Out of the dark night of the soul in the depths of Scorpio last month comes the Sagittarian search for meaning and the higher purpose of life. A mutable fire sign, Sagittarius is restless, optimistic, adventurous, stimulating, and pleasure seeking. The driving force behind a Sagittarian lifetime is the need to unveil the mysteries of life, to answer life's paradoxes, and to arrive at a philosophical, or spiritual understanding of the meaning of life itself.
A new moon in Sagittarius on November 25 set the stage for the next four weeks, beckoning us into a deeply transformative journey that leads to a breakthrough of mystical insight. The first week of December finds us full of optimistic plans with exciting, innovative ideas for expanding and improving our lives. Challenges come in the form of fitting our new plans within the existing framework of our lives.
Personal, love relationships have suffered strain since mid-November as traditional values have been tested to find what truly nurtures us in our love and family life. By the second week of December, we begin to realize how new plans can fit comfortably with our current life situation. A full moon in Gemini on December 11 illuminates our idealistic goals, revealing the way to make our vision into reality while maintaining the integrity of our most cherished values and relationships.
Over the past two years, the transformative planet, Pluto has been traveling in Sagittarius, prompting us to look deeply into our soul and to ruthlessly question the beliefs that guide our life. While the sun travels through Sagittarius this month, it meets the transformation theme of Pluto and we receive important insights into the nature and power of our beliefs. The tiny planet, Chiron, also currently in Sagittarius, opens us to the possibility of living in tune with our spiritual nature, or Higher Self, which transcends belief, and exists simply in the "now".
Since late October, and for the next two years, Pluto is completely shaking our rhythms and sense of timing until we find our new "groove", which can only be accomplished by getting in touch with nature, with Mother Earth and her seasons, and in tune with our spiritual essence, allowing Spirit to guide our life. While the sun transits Sagittarius until December 21, we have the most opportunity for a breakthrough of mystical insight that can change the direction of our life.
On December 21, the sun enters Capricorn and we have the Winter Solstice marking a "pause" in time during which we can reflect and gain insight into our life purpose and future direction. A solar eclipse in Capricorn occurs at the new moon on December 25, signaling a time of significant change in all of our lives. This eclipse will bring changes in the structure of the world's societies, such as reforms in politics, education, human rights, environmental issues, and health care. This is consistent with the times, as we are now beginning to enter the New Age of Aquarius, a 2000+ year period characterized by the principle of brotherhood-sisterhood.
On a personal level, the Winter Solstice marks the culmination of one cycle and the beginning of another, making it an important time for inner reflection and meditation. Generally, this solar eclipse brings changes in your career direction. Specifically, the solar eclipse will bring important changes into the area of your astrology chart that is occupied by the sign, Capricorn.
