Aries - A leap into new experiences The sun entered fiery Aries at the Spring Equinox on March 20, signaling the astrological "New Year". The first sign of the zodiac, Aries is a masculine, cardinal fire sign and relates to the "Fool" card in the Tarot deck. This is not to imply that Aries people are foolish; the Fool card represents the innocent, spontaneous, childlike leap into experiences that Aries often makes. This "leap-before-you-look" life strategy has gotten our Aries friends into more than their fair share of awkward circumstances! In search of a sense of identity, and often quite oblivious to the effect he or she has on others, Aries forges ahead, pioneering new territory for everyone. New beginnings and new beliefs While the sun transits Aries, we make new beginnings. The seed for this new cycle began on March 24, with the new moon in Aries, and culminates at the full moon on April 7. The full moon occurs in Libra, opposite the sun in Aries, reminding us to balance our own needs and desires with those of others. New beginnings this year are highlighted by the symbolic "death and rebirth" of our beliefs about the nature and purpose of life. Transformative Pluto in the sign of philosophy, Sagittarius, has for the past five years, been challenging our pre-existing beliefs. Joined this month by Mars and Chiron, Pluto challenges each of us to live the philosophy we profess, and the universe gives us ample opportunity to demonstrate that we can. Healing past relationships The planet symbolizing love, romance, and beauty, Venus, began retrograde (apparent backwards) motion last month in Aries. While Venus is retrograde, we have the energy to complete unfinished business from past relationships, to review and renew our values, and to remember the things that bring us pleasure in life. Continuing retrograde until April 19, Venus takes us on a journey into the themes of our past relationships, so we can learn what Spirit has to teach us about the nature of human love and values. Taurus brings practical expansion On April 19, the sun completes its' trek through Aries, entering the solid, feminine, earth sign, Taurus, where the experiences and perceptions gained through the lightning-quick energy of Aries can be grounded into some practical form. A new moon in Taurus on April 23 sets the tone and the theme for the coming four weeks, which is grounded in practical expansion and growth. Once again, our spiritual ideals get tested in the material plane as the mystical planet, Neptune, holds the vision, yet challenges us to make our ideals live in 3-D. A Higher Vision prevails The planet symbolizing life lessons and karma, Saturn, enters Gemini for its' two and one-half year sojourn after completing its' transit of Taurus. Since early 1999, Saturn in Taurus has been challenging and testing our existing values while a relentless aspect from Uranus in Aquarius has been shattering old values in favor of a higher vision. For most of us, this has not been an easy process, as old beliefs and values, especially those learned in childhood and reinforced by parents, teachers, and religions, are more than difficult to shed. But, if we have passed through this transit with consciousness and a sincere search for our own truth, we should be emerging now with a new clarity in our values based on what we know is true for ourselves. Alignment of Inner Truth and Values During the last week of April, Saturn in Gemini gives us a glimpse of the new theme it brings for 2001 and 2002, which is an increasing alignment between our inner spiritual truth and the clarity of our values. Neptune in Aquarius, the sign of the humanitarian, and Jupiter, together with Saturn in Gemini bring a very positive alignment of higher vision, along with an ability to express it in practical ways.
