Are you ready to receive love's unexpected visitors? Love's gifts arrive when we open the doors of our hearts.

I recently traveled to the Pacific Northwest for a family reunion. For a couple of days after the reunion, my parents and I dropped in on the homes of several relatives (and one complete stranger) without warning. We didn't phone or schedule these visits ahead of time, but simply drove up to their houses, parked our car, and got out to talk to whomever we saw in the yard.

What amazed me (besides our bold audacity) was how friendly everyone was. Without exception, we were warmly welcomed into each home, and given a complete tour of the house and garden. Without exception, people set down their shovels, spades, hammers, and saws and took an hour of their time to talk about their lives with us.

I was touched to see how all these people opened their doors and their hearts. I noted how surprised I was by this genuine hospitality -- after all, what could be more natural than welcoming visitors who come in the spirit of love? I realized that so much openness is foreign to me because I have become accustomed to living in a populated city where privacy is prized.

The other thing I noticed is that when we open our doors and our hearts to welcome love, we are able to receive love's unexpected visitors. I marveled at how often we miss opportunities in life by being too closed-in. In many cases, we don't even know what we've missed. How many ways do we shut love out of our lives? Do you feel you can only welcome love at appointed places and times? Would you welcome anyone who approached you in this spirit of love, or only those you already know, or who look like you?

Love's visitors and gifts can arrive at any time, anywhere. The biggest obstacle between yourself and love's gifts is your own inner defense system. By adopting an attitude of openness to love, you remove barriers to these unexpected visitors. Opening the door of your heart allows reality shifts to bring you non-local information, delightful synchronicities, miraculous healings, and instant manifestations. All of love's unexpected visitors are ready to greet you when you open your heart.

When I went on the BART underground train one day to meet three friends for lunch in downtown San Francisco, I missed my train and was delayed twenty minutes. When I arrived in the business district where we'd arranged to meet, I was disappointed to find my friends had left for one of San Francisco's hundreds of restaurants without me. I asked a receptionist and secretary where my friends might be, hoping they'd left a message or some clue to their whereabouts, but their trail was cold.

Suddenly, I remembered that anything is possible when we choose to feel a sense of relaxed, ecstatic love --- so I let go of my feelings of self-pity and anger and felt waves of love wash over me. A light drizzle of rain began to fall on me as I suddenly knew exactly where to walk... and my feet took me directly to the restaurant where my friends were already seated at a table. My friends were flabbergasted to see me, yet none of this seemed the least bit strange to me.

I have faith that love's gifts arrive when we open our hearts to love.

Cynthia Sue Larson holds a bachelor's degree in physics from UC Berkeley (1982), earned in conjunction with her pursuit of a more complete understanding of reality.
