The Evolution Angel Interviewed by Myriah Krista Walker |
|
In his book, The Evolution Angel, Dr. Abrams, an emergency room physician, shares incredible communications with people in the process of the death transition. The profound wisdom shared by this "evolution angel" is the TANGIBLE energy of Oneness emanating from his book. Having attended the death of over 500 people, Dr. Abrams writes of incredible insights from his contacts with the Divine. No matter where you are in your own process of spiritual awakening, this book is sure to empower a shift and a confidence in your path.
Here is a recent interview that I had with Dr. Abrams. What is the driving force that inspired you to write this book? Well, it was so easy to write, and flowed out very naturally, almost as though I couldn't help it. I also felt a lot of pain being in the medical profession which strongly motivated me to do something else. I wanted to be a writer, and I believe Spirit set it up so that this pain was the driving force. It also felt almost immoral for me not to communicate what I had learned and experienced. What do you say when people question these communications? When I speak at my lectures, somebody always says, "Yeah, but how does this happen, how do you know this is real?" I respond to this by asking the audience three questions. First, I ask how many of them have survived the death of a loved one? All of the hands go up. Then, I ask them to think about a really important death, like the death of a spouse or child or parent. I ask them if within the next day or two after that important person passed, did they find they said something in their mind to them? Something like, "I wish I told you I loved you more." Virtually everyone raises his or her hand. It's a universal phenomenon that we all do. Finally, I ask how many of them at some point felt as though something was said back to them? The hands go up more slowly, but many still raise their hands. I then say that the only difference between what I do and what they have done is that I've had more practice at it. I've attended the deaths of over 500 people. You tend to get better at it with practice. This book came about because of a major life change at the age of 30 and your subsequent decision to go into the medical field. Can you describe what inspired this career move? It started when I almost fell asleep at the wheel of my car and was saved by an angel. I always wondered why the angels waited until the last second to wake me up instead of 2 miles earlier on the road. The 40 days following this near death experience brought devastating changes ending with my house burning down. I had no choice but to look at my life, where I was going, and what I was going to do about it. I had lost everything, so I could choose anything now. The book really ingrains the fact that we create our own experiences. Looking back on this experience when you almost drove off the road and unseen hands grasped your face and awakened you, how do you view it with the knowledge you created the entire experience? The way I look at it now and when I was writing the book, I was reminded over and over that the angel, God, and me are not separate things. The angel was myself. You write: "I have found that all that is necessary to commune with the Divine is a simple belief in a world beyond, a willingness to speak with its beautiful inhabitants, and a rudimentary ability to quiet the mind and listen." How long did it take you to trust and accept what you were receiving? And were there any tools or specific books that helped you? It took a long time and about 300 deaths. The main sense of discomfort I felt was that I had one foot in the world of science and medicine with colleagues and a medical board that would disagree with this work. As far as being comfortable within myself, that happened fairly quickly. The tools that helped were books I had read many years earlier by Edgar Cayce. At the time I began these communications, I was living about 40 miles from where he had lived in Kentucky. I thought about him a lot, and he inspired me. Then I stopped reading everything and letting other people influence me, and let my own thoughts validate what I was experiencing. You write, "The vast majority of physicians are very spiritually aware and believe the soul goes on after the body has fallen away." This statement came as a big surprise based on my general view of Western medicine! It's a secretive kind of a thing. Physicians are reluctant to speak openly. I saw a poll once that asked physicians if they believe prayer could help a patient. Over 90% said yes. That tells me they are thinking and working with these things. But because of the way medicine is set up, it's not okay to talk about it. Do you feel this change will come about? I think it is happening very rapidly. If you were to look back 20 or 30 years, things were much more rigid. We've seen a number of books coming out from doctors, such as Brian Wise and Deepak Chopra. I think we'll see a lot more of this. In 20 years the change will be enormous. In the book you share the transitions of various different people. It is interesting that the communications with their "personality" selves eventually merge into Oneness. Every individual's experience blending into that Knowingness is so unique. It is. The face, the body that we manifest as an apparently separate entity, does merge back into Oneness after death. Really you are observing that process. The evolution angel states that death is a choice made on a soul level. Does this apply to suicide as well? Yes it does. I would be the first to admit that I don't understand the consequences of suicide. I hope to learn more about that. It's not an uncommon way to die, and is a difficult issue. There are a lot of superstitions about suicide, and the church has superimposed a lot of shame and judgment about it. In reality, there is no hell. But you do experience a set back. It's not a recommended kind of a thing. And yet with terminally ill patients, suicide is a different sort of thing altogether. You describe the wondrous experience of eight-year old Amy passing over into the arms of her angel mother. Are you more challenged assisting a child at transition than an adult? I am extremely challenged by it. I have a seven-year-old boy myself. Very few children die in emergency rooms. They either die somewhere else or we save them. The vast majority of deaths I've attended are older people. Everyone on staff was traumatized by this particular experience, from the secretaries to the nurses and doctors. Grief counselors gave us a lot of support. The evolution angel shares how sorrow and separation from our loved ones deepens our soul, and teaches us how to be together in much bigger ways. How has this understanding changed the way you view your patients? I view everybody differently now. I view us all as people that are creating our own little universes, and we all know what we are doing. None of us are lost. None of us are evil or bad. We're all just souls doing the best we can to get where we want to go as fast as we can. I now believe that human beings are amazing in their ability to take on challenge and progress rapidly - to set up circumstances and problems that stimulate growth. We have a lot of courage. This book not only validates the non-sense of death, but also between the lines reveals your own awakening process as a result of these experiences. How is Michael Abrams today different from Michael Abrams before the age of 30? We're both idiots (great laughter). We're schlepping through life the best we can with humor. I'm somewhat less of an idiot now. Before the age of 30 I didn't understand the mechanics of co-creation. I tended to blame external forces for my problems (God, the devil, the guy next door, the government). Now every time something happens, it's me. My problem. That's the main difference. Have you made any changes in your own behaviors and habits as a result from the knowledge in this book? The main thing that has changed is the way I think, because that underlines the behavior. That comes back to that I am causing my own successes and failures, so I have to be very careful of what I think. I like to complain, because when we complain we're really trying to tell others how great we are. But I can't do that anymore; because I know when I do I set up my own pitfalls. I'm forced to think positively. Once you understand this, you have no other choice but to think differently. What is the one message in this book that really stands out for you? I hate to be repetitive, but the point I want to drive home in this book is that people need to take responsibility for their thoughts and actions at the deepest possible level. This is your world; you need to decide. You've set it up, and its just perfect the way it is. It's all going to be okay and there is nothing to fear. I hope that there is a message of reassurance. The Evolution Angel is now in its 4th printing. How many copies have been sold, and what is the feedback you are getting? Almost 8,000 and sales are accelerating. Simon and Schuster are now looking at buying it. The feedback has been fantastic, and very humbling. I get letters from nurses, hospice workers; many ministers buy the book in large quantities for their parishioners. I find I am most honored by the feedback from these professionals. Since the age of 30, you have now become a doctor, writer, lecturer, and assist with personal coaching. Do you anticipate any other new careers in the future? (Laughter) I hope not. Basically, I'd like to not work and spend more time with family and meditate and enjoy the mountains and the outdoors. I hope that the success with this book will free me to do more of that and work less. I'm trying not to work in the medical field at all any more. Instead of large ER rooms and trauma centers, I'm now working in small centers with much less pressure. I painted the picture on the cover of the book and would like to delve more into art, as well as music. Les Kahn, who was associated with the Paul Winter consort, is working with me on creating a spiritual CD. Dr. Abrams, thank you for writing this book. Is there anything else you wish to say? Yes. Mention that I am ruggedly handsome. To order The Evolution Angel, click here
