IN OUR CRYSTAL STORE WE HAVE A LARGE BASKET OF TUMBLED STONES. They are a favorite with children who come to visit the store and we are easily convinced to dump the entire basket onto the floor for them, and sometimes grownups, too, to play with. Something I have noticed as I watch children play with them is that they tend to lay them out in patterns and grids. When I ask what they are doing they will often say things like, "I am making the stars on the floor so that they can come visit here." Or, "I am making a love picture for my Grandma because she is sick and the rocks will make her better." I find it quite interesting that young children naturally create such powerful tools for energy work and manifestation. I don’t recall making patterns with stones when I was a child, though I did it many times when eating a bag of M&M’s, setting out the candies in patterns and then nipping away at them, one candy at a time.

As an adult I have worked quite a bit with grids. The first one I created still exists in my old backyard in Texas. I have always been fascinated with stone circles and had toured many while living in the UK. Something about the energy of the places where the stone circles stood was compelling and powerful, and I desired one of my very own in the back yard of our home. My husband made it clear he wasn’t mowing around a bunch of rocks, no matter how much he desired to humor me, so I decided to go underground. I ordered a box of selenite pieces from a company in Arizona and kept them in my sacred space for about a month. I was not quite sure how I was going to go about creating my stone circle underground, but I knew the time and way would eventually present itself. One cool and misty Saturday morning I found myself in the backyard with six-feet of twine, a small trowel and my box of selenite. I tied a knot in the middle of the twine and another knot somewhere along the first length and set to work.

I really believe that the information was channeled to me, as the measurements created by the knots I placed were perfect. When I was done I had a center selenite with a quartz on top (so I could find it visually), eleven perfectly spaced stones three feet out from the center, and then another set of twenty two perfectly spaced stones six feet out from the center. Once it was completed you could draw imaginary lines from two consecutive outer stones to the center, and right in the middle of the imaginary wedge you would create would be one of the eleven inner ring stones. If you stood blindfolded in the center and twirled you would always stop facing the same direction (my children and I had a great deal of fun with proving this out over and over).

One day it dawned on me that I had placed this circle in the very center of a triangle of small oak trees. I feel like this synchronicity was very helpful in generating even more energy and earth connection. My underground stone circle became the focal point of all my ceremony, ritual, manifestation and earth healing work. When I moved to San Diego I discovered I could still access and activate the circle any time I desired for the purposes of planetary healing and light-grid work

Essentially you can use a grid to do all kinds of things, and you can create all kinds of grids using a variety of stones. As far as I can tell from my own experience, there is no specific rule about how a grid should be set up. The main thing appears to be that a pattern of some sort be created along with clear and concise intent. For those of you who desire a jumping-off point, here are a few forms of grids with details of how they work. You can try them out, and adjust them to fit your needs, or use them to stimulate your creativity and make some wonderful and powerful grids of your very own.

Fairy Circle or Medicine Wheel Grids
Fairy Circle/Medicine Wheel grids are portable, easy to create, and are excellent for use as a Feng Shui tool to stabilize the energy of a room or space. The Fairy Circle grid consists of 11 small quartz crystals placed on a flat surface in the space or room requiring energetic clearing, charging or energy dispersal. In the center is placed a 12th, and slightly larger upright crystal. The Medicine Wheel grid uses eight outer crystals instead of eleven. If you wish to clear and energize an area, face the outer crystals away from the central crystal so that the energy is drawn in through the central crystal and then spread throughout the space. If you wish to clear discordant energy in a room or space, place the outer crystals facing in towards the central crystal to focus the energy into the center crystal for removal.

Each time you move a Fairy Circle or Medicine Wheel grid, or switch the crystals to bring in or remove energy, take a moment to activate the grid. If it is an energizing circle, see a large beam of light coming into the central crystal, then radiating out to the outward facing crystals and then radiating into the space. If the circle is for energy clearing, reverse the process and see the light moving towards the center crystal and then into the Earth. Give intent that the circle remains activated for as long as is necessary to complete the process and then go on about your day.

Fairy Circles and Medicine Wheels are also lovely ways to facilitate planetary healing or for use in personal ceremony and ritual. You can set them up around a space you are about to use for ceremony or healing and place the main crystal in the middle of the circle where you will be. As you set up your circle focus the crystals whichever way your intuition tells you for the process you are undertaking, and then activate the grid for the time you will be working within it. Be sure to set the crystals far enough out that you have room to move around. If you have to leave the circle during a process you can turn one of the crystals sideways to create an energetic doorway for passage and then close it by turning the crystal back the way it was when you return.

For planetary healing work you can use a portable wheel or circle or, if you have access to private land, you can bury them like I did mine. The best stones to use for buried circles are double terminated ones placed upright in the soil. Once a circle for planetary healing is in place you can activate it to send energy into the planet or to feed the light grids. Buried circles can easily be activated from a distance with intent.

Corner-to-Corner Grids
Another household grid that is quite effective and very easy to do is the corner-to-corner grid. It is an excellent way to clear and reset the energy of a space as well as to protect it. This grid requires placement of four crystals, one for each corner, in the far corners of a room or building or property. It is desirable, though not required, that the area within the four crystals be reasonably square or rectangular. Once the crystals are placed, stand as close to the center of the area as is possible, ground yourself, and then activate the grids by seeing light circling and then forming spheres of light between the points. This creates six balls of light as you activate corner to corner and across at diagonals. Then you run a larger circle through the four outer points and create a huge sphere of light to encompass the entire thing, making the total number of spheres seven.

You can add to the purpose and intent of a corner-to-corner grid by choosing appropriate stones for a small bag to be hung in the center of the area you are working with. Recently we did this in a friend’s store in New Mexico. She desired for her store to have an aura calm, love, nurturing, peace, and joy, but she didn’t want things to be so laid back that nobody was motivated to shop or spend money. So, we added citrines to the quartz we were placing in the four corners of her store for prosperity and rejuvenation, and then chose other stones to support her intent and placed them in a medicine bag which hangs from the ceiling in the center of her store. When we activated the crystal grid we gave intent that the energy of the other stones we had chosen be incorporated into it for the desired energetic results. The energy shifted immediately, and the store is now drawing in the type of clientele she desires as well as an increased income.

As you practice using household grids for energy, clearing, and protection, you may find them to be quite useful around your home and business or for personal ritual.
