IN INDIA, GANESH IS SOUGHT after as the remover of
obstacles and there are countless temples devoted to him. He
is a strange-looking god with an elephant head instead of a human one.
When I was in India on a pilgrimage to the holy tomb shrine of Avatar
Meher Baba, preparing a new and vastly more powerful range of essences,
I came directly into a deep learning experience with Ganesh. Through
this experience and subsequent research I now know that he is a great
teacher where our human mind is concerned. His elephant head represents
divine mind.
I have created many essences over the years, but this one proved to
be the most unusual. I had developed a specific technique for making
essences which had served me well for most of my career, but one of
the essences in the new set taught me a sharp lesson. It refused to
succumb to my method of making an essence.
I
intuitively knew that an essence had to be made from a vine with bright
red flowers on it. I searched and was delighted to discover the vine
that matched up to my inner vision, but was disappointed when I saw
only a few flowers, and they were all well past their best. Fortunately,
there were buds waiting to flower and I hoped that they would flower
during my visit and that I could catch them at the right moment for
the making of the essence.
As soon as I was in contact with this vine, I began to feel a great
and surprising attraction to Ganesh, who, up to this point, held
absolutely no previous importance or interest for me. The whole experience
of Ganesh started to open up with articles and stories about him crossing
my path in a myriad of unexpected ways. I was enthralled by the story
of Ganesh and it gave me a real understanding of how the Hindu gods
are representations of aspects of the divine. I was yearning to visit
Ganesh Temples and even arranged a trip with friends. It took me some
time to discover the name of this vine, and when I did I could eventually
understand why it was having such a powerful effect upon me. Its name
was Ganesh Pushni Vine! What an amazingly strong presence it had to
affect me like this.
I
was not so sure about Ganesh being the remover of obstacles,
though, because as far as this essence was concerned I was being presented
with obstacles. I could not make this essence without some flowers and
after many days the buds still sat on the vine showing no inclination
to form into flowers for me to make an essence! I watched carefully,
not understanding why things did not seem to be going my way. My journey
was fast approaching its end and after a week of waiting, despair began
to set in. My mind was in turmoil; it was as if nature on this vine
stood still with the buds remaining tightly closed. All of the other
essences had come together in a simple manner ... all except this one.
On
the eve of my departure, I re-checked and in exasperation gave up on
this essence. Maybe I should have made it when I first saw it with its
faded flowers!
The next morning, and my departure day, I was awakened by many friends
knocking excitedly on my door with the news that the Ganesh Pushni Vine
was in full flower. Every single bud was splendidly flowering. Can
nature do this I asked? Unbelievable! I have to admit to feeling
annoyed and confused at this belated but magnificent show.
I
carried on with my pre-determined course. Nature had tricked me and
I had no time to make an essence as I was leaving within the hour. I
entered my taxi. As I took my leave, a fellow pilgrim came running to
me and pushed through the window a small pouch, a polythene zip-bag
filled with spring water and also the Ganesh flowers. I was astounded
but instantly placed it on the back ledge of the car where it could
imbibe the rays of the sun.
Arriving at my destination in Mumbai, I made for the first time one
of the most important essences in the over-opulent surroundings of a
most gracious colonial hotel. Statues of Ganesh greeted me as I sat
on a plush sofa with my Earl Grey tea and cake, served by a Maharaj
dressed waiter, whilst I carefully decanted the new essence into a clean
essence bottle.
Ganesh had broken all the rules, made its own essence in its own way,
not the way my mind dictated from patterns of the past. It simply smashed
through all of my old rules! Certainly, I had been taught to let go
of set ideas and to live and act in the immediate instant.
Working
with divine mind was very different to working with my mind. Divine
mind sweeps away restrictions and is like a mighty river in its action
and
has absolute precision timing within it. But, the timing is its own,
and not mine - what a great teaching! This was obviously an essence
for dissolving set mind patterns, and I could apply it not just to making
an essence, but to life in general. I could sense that this essence
would be a great help in my practice as I had discovered that mind is
one of the greatest obstacles to spiritual growth and intuitive development.
At Light Spirit Essences we have worked hard with our new range of essences
and have developed essences and books to help people overcome and identify
those mind patterns that are preventing growth. Ganesh is one of our
main mind-busting essences which, when taken, opens pathways for more
new and enlightening thoughts to flourish and develop.
