Creating A
Survivable Path

By Roan Carratu

"Good actions follow good thoughts like the wagon's wheels follows the donkey's hooves." "Bad actions follow bad thoughts, like the wagon's wheels follows the donkey's hooves" - Buddhist Scriptures.

"God helps those who help themselves." Christian Scriptures.

I was faced with a problem as big as the world.

When I was 10 years old, after moving to several countries as a military dependent, I realized that almost everything I was being taught was wrong. It made for an interesting and stressful childhood. I knew I had to experience truth, rather than accept the passed down concepts which others accepted as true. I joined the Army after high school, became a Green Beret, experienced the worse of human behavior and thought, and became, amid it all, a spiritual pacifist after my first trip on LSD.

The reality of what I experienced with my senses without filters, amplified by that wonderful biochemical, exceeded all the concepts of what I had experienced before. Upon seeing Universe clearly, I could no longer harm others, exploit others, and mindlessly follow orders, even if that meant death or living in a stone cell the rest of my life. I realized that while we are sovereign individuals, we are also One. We are responsible, that is, we have the 'ability to respond', to both simultaneously.

When I was 21, after I got out of the military, I took my first vows, not with a religion or belief system, but with myself and Universe. I vowed honesty, to seek truth, to give of myself, to understand Universe outside the lines of what was commonly 'known'. I took a vow of poverty, a vow of integrity, a vow of relevance, a vow of comprehension, and most of all, a vow of compassion. I set out to find how people thought, why they saw Universe in such a wide variety of perspectives, and hitchhiked the country for years, listening to people tell me their minds. On mountaintops and in deserts, in experiments and experiences, I had visions and learned the extremes of life.

I lived nearly a decade in a wonderful spiritual commune in Tennessee called The Farm, which, while it had it's problems, was a wonderful example of people living together based upon spiritual understanding and compassion. With 1500 people on 1250 acres, taking care of each other, it taught me what was possible to folks who had given themselves over to simple living and compassion for others.

Since then, I sought for some way to generate solutions to the world's stupidest problems by working with groups of folks dedicated to finding ways to guide Humanity towards ecologically sound prosperity, world transformation.

"Since the Advent of the Nuclear Age, everything has changed but the way people think, and thus we drift towards unparalleled catastrophe." -Albert Einstein

I was faced with a problem as big as the world.

If the problems we face on this planet are not solved by the ways people think, then perhaps it is necessary to think in new ways, outside the well-rutted pathways of common thought.

Now I'm 51 years old, and I understand how we got our species into this mess, how what we do increases this mess, how what we do not do increases this mess, and what we could do to clean up this mess. The question is, how to break through the boundaries of common thought and get people to see for themselves what we have to do, or, failing that, how do we get people to voluntarily do what is necessary despite the way they think.

After decades of attempting to persuade people to wake up and take a clean look around, I realized recently that the problem of getting people to 'do the needed' pivots upon the very purely conceptual systems which control their every action and thought. That system is called 'economics'.

The fact is, people are conditioned to do for symbols what they would not do even with an overseer standing behind them with a whip. So the answer is to come up with a way to pay people to do what is required for ecologically sound prosperity, and let the result of that process awaken them to the practical reality of compassion and the benefits of understanding Universe.

I looked around and saw that 'cashflow', the streaming of money as permission and control, channeled in two ways: as profit or as non-profit. The non-profit efforts mostly seem to be relief valves. They just don't have the resources to really implement major efforts in world transformation, even on the small scales they try. They are wonderful efforts, but fall short due to the scale of what they can try and the limits of non-profit organizations. While they do great good, most people seem to consider these to be all that is needed, which assuages their own consciences and prevents what can really be done if ordinary folks took the task seriously.

On the other hand, profit businesses have much larger cashflows based upon giving value to others, but due to the concentrated personal goals of those that enter that subculture, it never occurs to anyone that the cashflow could support purposes beyond individual fortune building. Profit companies do grow the infrastructure however, although often in really stupid ways and using really stupid methods, but obviously, if a large cashflow is required to bring about changes, profit is the way to generate that cashflow.

So I decided to do an experiment.

I am setting up an e-business, and beyond a modest hourly wage for my personal efforts and the expenses that are normal for a business, (all counted as part of the overhead), 100% of the net profit is going as grants to world transformation groups and efforts. All finances will be posted on the website, transparent to all. I have five businesses that wish to provide products for me to sell on the site, three more that are interested, and expect to double and maybe even triple that in only a few weeks.

That is not all of the experiment though. While the website will sell all kinds of products, I will make a concerted effort to sell products made by village and tribal coops throughout the poorer lands of the world, so the cashflow can go to them.

Beyond the armed taking of their land by corporations and 'governments', and of course, pollution, the largest threat tribes and village lifestyles face comes from their men streaming into the cities for slave wages for months at a time. Often only one old man teaches the tribal ways to the children, and thus they lose their cultural ways, overcome by the tidal wave of values, concepts, and advantages from a larger mostly dysfunctional culture.

By setting up a cashflow that holds the men home, where they can work with their families, their cultural values can at least adapt to the larger culture's advantages that they choose to embrace. With that cashflow, they can build their own eco-friendly infrastructure, like solar, wind, and other alternative decentralized technologies. Already in Africa, folks in villages put together their own solar panels, and work to set up their lifestyles with the technological advantages they choose while retaining their village and tribal ways. This needs funding to spread to other villages. Also, practices that pollute and poison the people must be abolished by providing healthy alternatives, like new ways to glaze their roof tiles rather than using lead from car batteries as practiced throughout South America.

Ideally, people could live intact, away from the larger dysfunctional culture. but in reality, they have no choice. They either adapt and survive, or simply fade into the wave of an alien culture.

So my website will attempt to cause change on two fronts, in supporting the peoples who most need a cashflow, and in funding the many wonderful world transformation projects which have been developed over the last 50 years. I call this idea 'Angel' e-business.

I would appreciate all help and advice, and customers, of course.
