What is Divinity? I used to think of the "Divine" as a remote, white bearded guy sitting on a puffy cloud dispensing miracles and thunderbolts. As I began to awaken, my understanding of the Divine changed to a more personal, universal entity, an entity that was not isolated in some mystical dimension. Then came the greatest revelation.

I finally got that I am Divine… and so are you.

It is easy to "say" that; it is not so easy to develop an understanding around the statement itself. Remember that an understanding results from taking knowledge (I am Divine) and putting it into action so that a personal truth occurs for each person. Many people before me have made this same allegation. I am only one more in a long line. My intention in this article is to present a different way of "building the case" for you as a Divine being (funny that we need convincing that we possess such a wonderful characteristic, isn't it? - that is where we begin).

There are two parts to this article. The first is to demonstrate through my own experience and, hence, understanding, that I am Divine, and through extension, you are too. The second part is to explain why realizing our Divinity is necessary for manifesting what we truly desire. This is the second of 9 Understandings that explain manifesting (harmony, last month, was the first).

To begin with, to demonstrate our Divinity I once more call on my two favorite human operating principles, karma and fear. Karma is about learning unconditional acceptance. Life is a series of moments bounded by birth and death. In every one of my waking moments I am either in a state of fear or a state of love. I can transform fear into love through awareness and process, and as a result, release karma. I can remain in the state of fear and create more karma. Karma is nothing more than a Spiritual accounting mechanism.

As I began to release karma (what a relief!), I saw more clearly that fear had blocked my ability to see who I really am - a pretty great person who thought for years that he was not good enough and unworthy of having what he truly desired. Yes, I read a lot of Spiritual material, have done many seminars and workshops, been rebirthed, accumulated sacred objects and received many "readings." It was all good, but external. The defining moment occurred when I finally screwed my courage to the sticking place and went inside myself. That journey is another story. You each have your own journey that has happened, is happening, or is in the future. I call it the "process."

As I used my process to release fear in big chunks, it got a lot easier to release karma in the moment-to-moment of daily life. Releasing fear is like rolling a snowball uphill. The closer you get to the top, the heavier the snowball becomes until it threatens to roll back over you down to the foot of that darned mountain you almost climbed. If you keep pushing, though, you reach the top, and then it effortlessly rolls down the other side getting still bigger. As mine rolled down the other side, I started to see more and more clearly our Divinity. As my inner fears were rolled up in the descending snowball, the veil began to thin, and I saw beyond my humanity to our Divinity. What does our Divinity look like to me?

"Touch a flower and trouble a star." Everything is truly connected.

Our Divinity looks like the world always looked EXCEPT now I SEE that everything is connected, the flower and the star, and everything else. The sum total of everything is Divinity. Since I am (and you too are) connected to the sum total of everything, then everything and we are Divine. I readily admit that for some people that may be in the realm of "knowledge only," and questionable at that. It's okay. Moving into the state of experiencing our Divinity does not result from reading an article.

It results from being in action: releasing fear and "understanding" that you really are a part of the whole, never alone, and Divine. The Divine can be a white bearded guy dispensing miracles and thunderbolts from atop a puffy cloud and everything else at the same time. You can ignore the Divine, but that does not mean it is not there, here, and everywhere.

We are still on part one, my experience, so bear with me. I mentioned that I used a process to release my fears and thin the veil. The process is below. As in all that I offer you, take what you want from it (if anything) and make it your own. It has (no surprise) nine steps.

1. Have awareness that there is no reality other than the moment
2. Each moment has one of two states: fear or love
3. Whenever an unwanted emotion is present, fear is the origin; this is a karmic moment
4. Give expression to the emotion = speaking one's truth
5. When the emotion is dissipated, then recognize the form that fear took (anger, disappointment, frustration, helplessness, sadness, depression, etc.)
6. See the fear as manufactured, of human origin, and accept it for what it is - a lesson
7. Unconditionally accept the fear as a messenger that seeks to teach you to love and accept. This act releases karma
8. Ask for love and light energy
9. Be thankful for this opportunity to experience our Divinity.

You can, in the last step, experience our Divinity, for in that moment the veil will be very thin. The more I use this process, the easier it gets, and the easier life becomes. If this process sounds familiar, an abbreviated version appeared in Understanding 3: Fear.

This brings us to part two, how does connecting with our Divinity enhance my ability to manifest what I desire?

So much of manifestation seems to be about acquiring "things," and that's okay. We need "things" to remain in our human energy. When in acquisition mode, however, the "thing" and we are viewed as separate, unconnected. If I am Divine and connected to all things, then manifesting is simply a matter of attracting something to which I am already connected. Understanding this makes manifesting so much easier. There is no issue of whether or not I "deserve" something.

Of course I deserve it, especially if what I desire is in my highest and best interest, i.e., it is on the path to that for which I yearn. The Universe places no judgments on what I desire. The answer to all requests is, "So it is." There are, however, some subtleties about languaging* what you desire to be manifested. Those we will deal with in Understanding 7 - Intention. First, we need to look at how the physics of manifesting anything (even behaviors) work. That comes next month in Understanding 6 - Energetics.

In closing, realizing our Divinity is possible. Our Divinity is a fact for me that is as certain as the sun rising every morning. Is there a mandate that you undertake this? No, only an invitation that stays extended to all of us for the tenure of our stays on this wonderful planet. Connecting with our Divinity brings much more than an enhanced ability to manifest. In fact, I find that there are fewer and fewer things I desire. In the place of the materialism I so lusted after for decades, I find wonder and fulfillment in the simplest of things. My compassion goes out to my fellow humans who are so caught up in fear.

There are so many methods, processes that others have brought forth in their own understandings, so use whatever resonates with you. I urge you to have the courage to look within, to go into the dark places, the shadows wherein fear breeds and thrives. The dark is not as scary as our egos lead us to believe. Ask for Spirit to lead you, to guide you when you are ready to take the step. I promise you very little in this series - I do promise you that if you take the journey, life will never be the same again. You will find home - right where you left it long ago.

Choice to create the opportunity for growth by having the awareness that there is always more than one alternative.
Discernment to enable choosing wisely through the awareness of what is in the best and highest interest of the chooser.
Fear as the greatest teacher.
Harmony to transform fear so that the choice can be manifested.
Divinity to connect us with the Universe where manifestation actually occurs.
Energetics to explain the physics, the "Tao," of manifestation.
Intention to initiate manifesting a choice in reality.
Consistency to enable transformation.
Partnership to measure the progress of growth through interactions with people and the world.

*About the use of the word languaging… I know that there is no such formal word, so I think I invented it. The connotation of the word as I am using it is: the linkage between what someone says (or writes) and what he or she mentally intends. A silly example is to say, "I would give anything for a cold drink right now." We all know that the speaker does not really mean that he or she would literally give anything for the cold drink, but we are left with wondering what the speaker actually would give for a cold drink? We don't know because of the speaker's imprecise languaging. A related aspect is that the power of speech and the written word is considerable with respect to creation and manifesting. To say, "I am so embarrassed I wish I were dead," may manifest, so be careful what you say… languaging.
