Where and when did you leave your magic behind? The magic of childhood, of light-filled summer days is the magic I speak of. I left mine in a secret place under the sumac trees on an Island in Maine the summer I was ten, when I realized I had no voice in the world of adults. A part of me went underground that summer, and I didn’t even know it. My journey back to my magic self took many years, and the birth of a magical daughter, who when she was seven, sat with me on a porch in Maine as we sucked the berries of a sumac tree, and . . . I remembered! So I encourage you to take a journey, a journey to the place where your magic has been waiting to be invited back into your life. What better time to begin the journey than summertime? Ah, the magic of summer! All our senses come alive in this season of magical awareness. Lean your back against the warm, rough bark of your favorite tree. Watch the sparkles of a million rainbows from an ordinary garden hose. Feel the warmth of the summer sun on your skin. Taste the sun-ripened red sweetness of strawberries. Close your eyes and breathe in the sweet, newly cut green grass smells of this season. See in your mind’s eye the child that you were, the child of summer magic.

Now listen. Listen for the sounds of whispering green leaves, as they weave their voices together high in the branches of the maple tree. Listen for the sounds of the birds as they sing in joyous celebration of the season. Listen for water bubbling in a nearby brook as it dances it way over the smooth rocks. And if you listen ever so carefully, you will hear the almost silent hum of the iridescent wings of the dragonfly, the messenger of magic and illusion, as she hovers close to you in this moment. Listen carefully. The dragonfly speaks a message of hope to you who wish to break through the illusions of this reality and remember your magic. You need only listen, and open your heart to hear and sing the song of the Dragonfly, Mistress of Magic!

My Heart, my Soul, my Self are straining to be free.
I have emerged from the darkness and flown into the light.
Out of the darkness, into the light.
Out of winter, into Spring.
Out of the past, into the future.

Bursting through the shackles of the past while remembering the wisdom
of the past and carrying it forward into the future.
Embracing the wisdom and the knowledge
which are my birthright.
Flying free.

And so it is.

Spirituality, healing and creativity are three strands that Deborah Clark Kelley weaves together in her life. Deborah holds two certificates in Art and Creativity for educators, and is a practising Reiki Master. She has recently completed a spirit-guided story for the Indigo children, called "Anahanda and the Children of the Light."
