Hello, my name is Chris Michaels, I am 20 years of age and I reside in the golden state of California. I was born and raised in the heart of Los Angeles, and I am currently a student studying to become a veterinarian. Having said that, most people are surprised when they find out that for me, artwork is more of an enjoyable hobby rather than an integral part of my lifestyle. I have worked in photomanipulation for almost 6 years now, and took up photography about 4 years ago and I remain self-taught in both disciplines. I have always believed that art is a unique language that can affect a human being in ways that words or actions could never compare. In my artwork, I seldom place my own feelings into the pieces I create. Rather, I grasp the feelings of others - the viewers - and gently bring them together into every piece, allowing the viewer to make a direct connection with the artwork instead of trying to figure out "what the artist was trying to say." Instead, the viewer plays the role of the artist and decides "what the piece is trying to say." Although it seems counter-intuitive, and some contemporaries would probably be quick to criticize, I feel that the language of art is best mastered by the viewer rather than the artist. Therefore, I credit the inspirations for my art to my viewers. In hope that you would make it yours in your own special way, I present you "Emerge" ... a message that celebrates transformation, a state which we as human beings will constantly dance with in our lifetime.
