Liiga Smilshkalne has always been interested in the unseen, mystical parts of life and has pursued various ways to gain insight to them, one of which is through art. She was introduced to the practical applications of the concept of putting your thoughts down on paper with paint at the early age of three. Since then, she has been relentlessly exploring new ways to do it through various mediums such as acrylics, pencils and pastels and finally arriving to the world of digital art five years ago.

Coming from Latvia, a country where the digital is one of the less established mediums, Liiga is self-taught in it, which, although sometimes tedious, is a way full of discoveries and experimentation.

Liiga's other interests include Physics, playing the piano, Economics, in which she has obtained the bachelor's degree, and Politics, which she is currently studying. Liiga also isn't a stranger to various concepts of spirituality, as well as metaphysical and psionic issues.

Altogether it is reflected in Liiga's works, which mostly revolve around fantasy, spirituality and focus on issues concerning human nature and interaction with the world around us. She is particularly fond of using elements of surrealism, fantasy or sometimes humour in her works as they allow us to look at the ages old issues from a new perspective.

Liiga's goals in life include pursuing a career in politics in the hope that somewhere, somehow there will be an effective way to apply her abilities in efforts to make the world a better place. But until then she believes into being optimistic, helpful and that one can make anything happen for as long as he or she really wants to and believes in it.
