Finding Balance in Changing Times
THE PAST MONTH has created a shockwave of unexpected
events, transitions and chaotic moments. When we are overly exposed
to all that is going on around us, we can easily get caught up in the
drama, fear and uncertainty that these events invoke within us.
I
felt this strongly when the news of Farrah Faucet and Michael Jackson's
transition hit the news... when an individual is placed on an iconic
plateau there is a perception from many vantage points that this person
is in some way above human experience, we forget they too are here in
the human form to share, learn and experience just as we are.
News and the media can stir up much fear, anxiety and confusion -
we can easily loose our spiritual grounding and get lost in the emotions
that redirect our knowingness. While the loss of an individual presence
is a loss strongly felt by the lack of presence, we also must remember
that we are all souls, here in this brief moment in time to share, learn
and experience.
When we get caught up in the chaos and confusion, our energy can feel
depleted, depressed or we may feel that we aren't feeling "connected".
In these moments its important to acknowledge what you feel, honor your
feeling of loss, confusion, sadness - whatever emotion is calling
you in the moment, be aware of its presence, it is there to serve you
in the awareness of contrast.
However, after you have come to this acknowledgement, it is time to
let go. Holding onto energy or emotions that do not offer comfort or
pleasure are not necessary to carry around with you. The beauty of contrast
is that if gives you awareness to what makes you feel good and what
does not bring you joy.
As
you explore ways to create your inner peace once more, gain your grounding
and balance; remember tools you have used in the past. Meditation is
a simple and wonderful way to get re-connected to your higher self and
invoke the process of inner peace. Meditation does not have to be a
sit still in silence experience. I have found my most profound meditations
to be when I am walking outside, connecting to the earth, nature and
the music of the breeze. My mind is quiet and calm, my feet are connected
to Mother Earth and the sun creates a wonderful blanket of warmth.
As you get grounded, your mood is lifted and life's events are
less emotionally powerful. There will always be moments, events or shifts
that will impact our lives; this is an element of contrast. Use a journal
to document your changes, challenges and growth. A journal is a wonderful
record of life's experiences through your journey.
Additionally,
make sure you give yourself the honor of you; take time for
you. During times of job cut-backs, layoffs and feeling as if there
is less and less, there is always plenty of you to give to
you. Some pleasures may not be as financially available to you, but
you can always find simple pleasures and experiences. Get creative and
explore aspects of your passions and pleasures, find joy in each moment,
no matter how big or small.
As we enter the next month of summer, we in the United States will
celebrate our country's birthday - a wonderful time to celebrate
and acknowledge all the simple pleasures of family, friends and warm
sunshine!
Enjoy and Be ~
