Moonstruck - June 2005
B Y  Y V O N N E  H A N S O N

IN CRAFTING THIS MONTH'S COLUMN I drew inspiration from Teresa Moorey’s words, ‘We use the Sun to measure the years and days of our conscious actions, but the Moon is the ‘clock of our instincts.’ The Moon can show us the way to feel connected and joyful, if we listen to her rhythms. By observing the Moon and her rhythms we can more readily connect with the Earth, and with our own bodies… We can also connect with our inner rhythms that have been repressed by the routine of work. We can get to know ourselves better and, if we are lucky, glimpse something that will fill us with wonder and a sense of meaning… it’s just a matter of opening up, tuning in, drawing back the curtains and letting the Moon shine in.’

June is a month of transition, when the Sun entering Cancer marks the Summer Solstice and signals the beginning of summer. This is also reflected in the lunar cycle. June’s first two phases occur in mutable signs continuing the theme from May’s Full Moon. Their fluid and adaptable energy can be used to release spring projects. Summer arrives hand in hand with June’s Capricorn Full Moon and signals a shift into cardinal energy that begins a period of direction and purpose for the remainder of June’s and for the first half of July’s lunar cycle.

JUNE 2005

NEW MOON
The New Moon occurring June 6th at 3:56pm MDT in Gemini is a potent time when the energy is tender, bright and uplifting, and we can start work on fresh projects. It stresses the importance of clear communication when stating our case. Although, we may find ourselves feeling disadvantaged and misunderstood because of who we are in a situation; and, we may strike resistance, partly due to others ignorance, when we stand up for what we feel; If we want people to listen and care, we must press our case or the status quo will remain. If our cause is worthy and just, we will be heard by those who understand or resonate with what we are saying and our influence will spread. Expect these themes to be present in our lives until the next New Moon.

New Moon Visualizations: I want to experience more fun in my life. I want to expand my network of contacts. I want to become more thorough in my work and follow through my projects to the end. I want all my communications to be clear and hassle-free. I want to live in harmony with my neighbours.

Home & Garden – If you are planning to move house, try to do so before June 20th. The best days would be the 10th/11th and 17th/18th. This quarter is the optimal time to sow and tend plants that bear their produce externally and, is also best for pruning and cutting, as plants are stronger and will therefore recover from being cut. This is the time for fertilizing and feeding anything we wish to flourish. The best planting days are the 8th & 9th to sow plants and flowers for hardiness and abundance; and for watery vegetables and fruit. Pruning is most effective if undertaken on the 10th-13th.

Mind, Body & Health – We can use this productive time to direct our efforts towards health projects that emphasize renewal.

Business/Financial – This period of expansion is the time to set fresh goals or enter new stages in projects already underway. It favours catching up on correspondence and introducing new ideas.

MOON IN GEMINI
Gemini energy enlivens and quickens. The naturally sensitive and sympathetic Moon does not function comfortably here, thinking about emotions rather than actually feeling them. If we have been overly critical and negative with our words, we may use this Moon to re-centre and be more mindful of what we say. In this sign of the messenger, we can take a look at what our essential and divine message in life is and seek to cultivate that message to its utmost. A Gemini Moon entices us to reflect on who nourishes us when we talk to them and who we enjoy nourishing through images or words.

The Gemini Moon’s instinctive response is flexible and sociable, and its bright side reveals versatility, wit, charm, liveliness, and an amusing nature. The shadow aspect of the Gemini Moon exposes disorganization, inconsistency, cunningness, and superficiality. Gemini Moon needs lots of intellectual stimulation.

The Gemini Moon affirmation is, ‘Conducting all my dealings with truth and honesty brings me satisfaction and peace of mind.’

Home & Garden – Tidying the house and organizing the home office are excellent channels for Gemini Moon energy. The Gemini Moon’s barren and dry nature is suitable for soil cultivation, but planting or transplanting is not recommended.

Mind, Body & Health – Gemini Moon energy can be used to perform healing work for the lungs, the nervous system, and the arms and hands. It is also a good time to work with themes of communication, connection, and social relations, to chant, write poetry, and to do journaling. Gemini Moons are a good time for breath work in the form of meditation, tai chi or yoga. It is also conducive for contacting friends, doing a computer course and/or joining a debating society. FIRST QUARTER MOON
The First Quarter Moon occurring June 14th at 7:23pm MDT in Virgo is a quiet pause as we reach the midpoint of quickening energy and momentum between the New and Full Moons. It brings relationship issues up for assessment. We might be feeling stuck in a relationship with no room to move. A need for constant reassurance that everything is ok can be wearing and can put a strain on those involved. If we keep our sense of innocence and purity in a situation, it will lift us up and out of any problems. In all relationships with people or pets, we can be loving and ‘be there’ for each other without letting things get out of hand.

Home & Garden - Interior design fares particularly well on the 15th & 16th. The 15th – 19th is the best gardening period this quarter and supports sowing vines, especially fruit bearing types, and climbers, flowers, fruit trees, fleshy vegetables, and root vegetables. Transplanting flowering annuals, and plants, like tomatoes, that crop aboveground is very favourable now.

Body, Mind & Health – We can breathe accord into relationships, both with ourselves and with others. We can gain awareness of how integration can help us escape being torn apart by this and that, and gain a sense of balance. This would be a wonderful time to help someone who is frail or weak build and gain health.

A Virgo Moon invites us to probe how we can choose a line of work that encourages emotional attunement to details.

Its instinctive response is cool and off hand. Its bright side displays intellect, meticulousness, industriousness, steadfastness, and responsible approach; while its dark side reveals a critical, high strung, standoffish, argumentative, hypochondriacal nature. The Virgo Moon needs a well-ordered routine.

The Virgo Moon affirmation is: ‘There are many ways to accomplish a deed. Mine is only one way, and I have much to learn from the way others handle their lives.’

We can expect leadership issues to be at the fore now and perhaps throughout the summer, given how closely aligned this Full Moon is with the Summer Solstice. This is one of those times when we need to rise to the occasion and take charge. In struggles for control, know when to give way to the rights of others to achieve a stronger position in society. Themes of assuming authority; finding a true sense of place; charisma, respect, having to stand up in the crowd; and, staking one’s claim are being played out now.

Full Moon Focus: Your standing in the world reaches new heights. Beware conflicts between career and home life.

Rather than scattering our energies, we can shift focus from one thing to another when it is needed or useful.

Home & Garden – The week following the third quarter moon is an ideal time for thorough clear outs. If painting the house is one of our summer projects June 30th and July 1st are very favourable days to do it. We can use this phase of the Moon’s cycle to plant biennials, perennials, and root vegetables, for weeding, turning the flowerbeds over, pruning out deadwood, and burning off garden rubbish.

Mind, Body & Health – This is an optimal time to seek equilibrium in our lives, firmly but peacefully letting go of failed projects, while working to eliminate remaining obstacles to viable growth. We can also work on self-acceptance by allowing ourselves to have human failings that can be worked on, but which must also be lived with while we endeavour to bring the changes about.

Business/Financial – If you have been thinking about making changes, the Third Quarter theme of bringing matters to a close supports dissolving partnerships, restructuring, and researching new lines.

In the vibrant sign of Aries, the Moon endows charm, vivacity and a special knack for getting others to do what we want.
