Dear Sharyl,

I happened to find Jelaila Starr's info on Indigo's : Children of the Web. I have a 13-year-old son, Byron, who I think is an Interdimensional Indigo. I had picked this up after reading Lee Carroll's book - The Indigo Children. I found it fascinating.

While reading Jelaila's account, it made my hairs rise as I remembered what Byron used to do constantly as a child of 2,3,4 & 5 years of age. I never had any string or wool in the house as, at every opportunity, he used to tie everything up. He used to criss-cross the room he was busy in and attach the string to anything he could find. Isn't that interesting? At that stage, it was a bit of a nightmare for me as it took me ages to untie everything, but it was literally like a spider's web! Jelaila's information seemed to clarify and confirm the conclusions I've reached about my precious boy. He spoke very early in life and by the age of 2 could recite or sing the Lord's prayer, the alphabet and count up to 20. Yet, over the years, from his teachers, I have had so many negative reports about lack of concentration, being a disruption in the class, not doing his homework, bad attitude towards his work, untidiness, day dreaming, class clown, etc. He has an amazing sense of humour and has the wonderful ability to make people laugh, so he makes friends easily. Eventually, I whipped him out of the class of 40 that he was in and enrolled him into the Westering Christian Academy, where they follow the ACE (American) system of education. They work at their own pace, with no one to compete with but themselves. There has been a great improvement here, especially as far as his happiness and peace of mind is concerned, as they don't have any homework, if they manage to complete their goals for the day. We no longer have the temper tantrums every afternoon as I don't have to plead with him to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework - as a result, we are all more relaxed. However, the negative remarks continue from the teachers about how they battle to get him to be consistent in his work.

Over the years, teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, and doctors have suggested Ritalin. I instinctively refused, knowing the harmful effects of this Schedule 5 (or 7) and tried many nutritional alternatives instead. At the moment, I am giving him 1 Spirulina (green/blue algae) and a multi-vitamin for Kids. Byron has a mind of his own and a strong streak of independence. He spends very little time at home, as he is always out and about with his friends, which saddens me as we have a beautiful home with swimming pool and tennis court and would so love him to bring friends here. He's only here for bed and breakfast and I prepare a meal for him in the evenings, as he has lunch at school. He, I think, has strong moral values. We haven't had problems with drink and his friends that I have met all seem to be very pleasant. He seems to be very set in his ideas about what is right and wrong; he demands respect and hates it when his father says no without giving a reason, or when his father orders him to have a bath, etc. He doesn't do anything around the home and his room is in a constant mess as he tries on clothes and leaves them all over the floor. He doesn't respond to my requests for instance. There has been a constant clash with his father, who made no effort to understand him and shouting was the order of the day. I have been explaining my newfound knowledge to my husband - and hopefully his relationship with his son will improve. Materially, he will do anything for him but he is not a materialistic child - he loses things or gives them away. He's been overseas with us many, many times - Europe, the Far East and to Disney World about 4 times. He is a fortunate child to have 2 doting parents - at home all the time, to be there for him when he needs us. My husband retired from being a General Manager of a large Supermarket Chain 2 years ago. I am keen to visit the web sites mentioned in The Indigo Children book and I would so appreciate it if you could give me your thoughts and guidance, so that I can be a positive influence in his life. Perhaps there are more children out there, who need help (including their parents) than we realize. I would love to know more about what you do and what I can do to help.

Sincerely,
Cornelia Carroll

COMMENTARY ON SYNCHRONICITY & THE INGATHERING:

Interesting article. And whether we call all the dream purely symbolic or not does not change what I believe to be the validity of the message aboutour emotions.

Expressing our emotions, letting them "emote" a response and thus being motivated and moved by them is our healing as well - not just the healing of the Indigo's! This society needs to get our emotions unclogged, beginning at the individual then family level. We have stifled and stuffed ourselves for too long and the Indigo's may be selectively removing those who are stuck. THE UNIVERSE IS IN DIVINE RIGHT ORDER - even when we doubt that.

I had to go through much to finally realize that blame and guilt don't make anybody do anything different than what they want to do - whether I was blaming or guilting others or even self. And if these did "control methods" did actually work, they are heavy loads for anybody - too heavy. This is a time to lighten up and find enlightenment - not carry around those old heavy and stuck emotions.

Emotions are spiritual energy - thus they want to move and flow (across the web some day?) and feel alive - for these emotions to are living energy! Even fear and anger - in this context - are valid emotions and are meant to move us out of where or how we are feeling uncomfortable (fear and anger being inner feelings or signs of that discomfort).

I believe that you may have missed the key (not just in your pickup truck). The key here is self-responsibility - for who is feeling the feelings? Self! Who can change the energy and thus those feelings? Self! Therefore killing the world will never solve the emotional discomfort. In fact it would lead to loneliness, only intensifying the fear or anger.

This may be an important concept for this networked energy (the Indigo's) to begin to understand. As each node of a network begins to become healthy, the entire network improves. This is also how our bodies, the world and the universe heal ... one cell at a time.

Food for thought

Hello, Sharyl!

I was very interested in your article on Indigo Children in the Planet Lightworker. Having never heard that expression before, I started with your "What are Indigo Children?" piece and a real sense of recognition and excitement hit me. This is my question: can it be that Indigo Children have been around LONGER than 35 years? I am currently 51 and all the 'symptoms' you describe about not fitting in, being let down by 'left-sided' education at school, the feeling of isolation and being different, looking for creative solutions to problems, are all ones I experienced as a child, and beyond, as did several others I have spoken to. It seems to me, that perhaps the forerunner Children have been around since after the last War.

If so, it might explain a lot of things that we have all suffered, over the years. Oddly enough, at this time, I know of several people, around my own age, who have experienced this 'alienation' and who are beginning - in Steve's words - to 're-member' and are all readers of LightWorker. Could it be that some of the 'Baby Boomers' were actually the first set, and over the generations since, the 'strain' has gotten stronger?

What do you think? Is this possible?

Alison Pengelly

Dear Alison:

Thanks so much for writing. The question you ask is one that we have been pondering for some time. Spirit is rather quiet on the issue, at least to me, because we must soon move on past labeling and separation. However, I do feel that the answer to your question would bring some understanding and peace to some.

I believe that in 1945 the forerunners began to incarnate...we were the hippies, etc. I believe that we were the ones to clear the way, set the energy and much more, for the coming of the Indigos and others. So I do not believe that we were Indigos per se, but I do believe that we were forerunners. I have heard some of this group described as the Blue Ray, but I am not certain. There are still others who would call us the First Wave...the first to awaken and hold the energy. I guess the names matter not. What matters now is that we find each other and validate ourselves for the experiences we had. Even though we often felt very alone, in fact we were not at all. There were a bunch of us.

Blessings and love, Sharyl

Dear Sharyl,

I apologize for the delay in touching base with you regarding my observations of the Indigo children. I am "recovering" from several weeks of feeling inert - devoid of feeling and energy. As my "senses" and depth of feeling return, I realize I am entering the world of 3Dism (4Dism?) in full force. I am creating a whirlwind of activity which is catapulting me into a sea of opportunity to learn what I need to learn in order to actualize my dreams. It's quite the ride, isn't it?

Where do I begin - these children, the New Race, the Indigos… Many times they appear to be lost in the crowd but I know them because they come to me, or something catches my attention - a child stands out in some regard. My special Angel Guide has informed me that all the children with whom I work are Indigos.

I have been working with elementary and preschool age children for nearly 30 years. During that time I have been a second and third grade teacher and preschool teacher and director. Currently I work with fifth and sixth grade special education children (L.D. - learning disabled and B.D. - behaviorally disordered) as a paraeducator (teacher assistant) and substitute teacher. Our special needs elementary school is located in a lovely Midwest City on the eastern plains of Nebraska. Our student population represents 25 different countries but is largely African-American in make-up. Students enrolled are from the poorest sector of our community. It is an environment filled with challenge, both behaviorally and academically, but it is also a space filled with tremendous Love.

I feel my way among the children, always observing, learning, fine-tuning, reinventing my skills, as I interact. I observe them closely - what works, what doesn't, what invites their passion, what snuffs out the flame. There is anger, there is aggressive acting-out. There is also expression of deep-seated Love.

Many times an Indigo child will seek me out. This has been true of Joshua (not his real name) who one day walked into the Resource classroom, stood by me and began to quietly sing a song by Celine Dion - I believe it was "Where is the Love?" Joshua has been mainstreamed into a regular classroom where he faces the challenge of compromising his unique abilities in an attempt to conform - to fit in somehow. We are undeniably connected. There is a bond. This eleven year-old often walks up to me on the playground to share his poetry, the most recent of which is titled, "SORE: I AM SORE IN MY MIND. I AM SORE IN MY HEART. I AM SORE IN MY SPIRIT. I AM SORE ALL OVER". Joshua is an African-American child who is medicated. Without his meds, I am told, he loses focus, becomes agitated. He is soft-spoken and often appears out-of-touch with reality. His regular classroom teacher and I have become friends and she is delighted that I have taken a special interest in Joshua.

Indigos in the Resource Room are generally very hard working and diligent despite the academic "handicaps" which often make functioning in the public schools challenging. Some are poor readers and spellers or have difficulty comprehending the world as we define it. Others are excellent students whose behaviors have "branded" them as often incapable of functioning in the regular classroom. But creativity abounds, as does a sense of purpose, willingness and profound spirit.

As I help them adjust to public school expectations, I find that they respond to certain limits and consistency, which helps them to function on a day to day basis in the confines of this dimension. But they THRIVE on choices, having a voice and any activities that allow for creativity and spontaneity. They often become mired in chaos, brought on by their own boredom and frustrations. They do not hesitate to direct aggressive behavior toward one another or staff. But they are also learning that if they are to get their "foot in the door" that a certain amount of compliance and compromise is necessary - otherwise we are going to wear each other out!!The behaviorally challenged Indigos are easily agitated, roused to action, both physically and emotionally, "positively and negatively". They come from home environments which "fuel the fire" with their lack of stability.

I also observe, and have had an opportunity to teach, children who I sense are Indigos, in the conventional classroom. They seem to be achieving, adapting and "conforming" beautifully. Possibly they have learned to better integrate because they are honored and treated with integrity on the home-front as well as at school. These children truly amaze me with their focus, empathy and "gentle" natures.

I am "working on" guiding as well as being guided by the children. I respond when I grow weary with the incessant demands upon my energy and patience, I love what I do and know I am experiencing one of my passions.

I am also fortunate to work with an administration and teachers who value my experience and skills, look beyond my "title" and afford me with plenty of breathing room and opportunity.

The Special education teacher with whom I work is extremely unconventional, energetic and creative but also a tough disciplinarian. When her disciplinarian style lacks integrity, the children often rebel and her heavy handedness backfires. But more often than not, the children conform, the upside being a teacher who is also out-of -the ordinary, allows for creative expression and spices up lessons with her unconventional approach. Kristine (not her real name), often laments at her lack of lesson plans and inability to stick with the curriculum. I remind her that her creativity and spontaneity invites enthusiasm, creativity, participation and a sense of Beingness. Kristine deplores basal readers, irrelevant mathematics and English grammar. Instead, the children may work on a play which is lighthearted but teaches a lesson. In memorizing lines, they are reading and establishing focus. Their self-esteem is embellished as they quickly memorize lines, paint
scenery, create costumes and perform before students in regular classrooms.

As I write this, I am also witnessing a sudden, obvious transformation in Kristine. She has become quieter, gentler, more subdued. In the past, any music played in the classroom has been "rock and roll" in nature. Suddenly, she has acquired tapes that play celestial tunes. It is having it's effect - less turmoil, a quieter arena in which to focus.

I would like to close with a favorite poem of mine, written by Joshua:

IF YOU LISTEN

If you listen, you'll hear the heart of the moon.
If you listen, you'll hear the mind of the sun.
If you listen, you'll hear the clouds' footsteps.
If you listen, you'll hear the voice of the rain.
But most of all, you hear Life.

Love and Light,

Karen Beacon

Karen:

Thank you for sharing your observations, love and experience. So much of what you say is right in line with what we have been told works and does not work with the new children. If it is all right with you, I am going to submit this to Sandie, my managing editor, or consideration in our letters to Sharyl section.

Have you checked out our newly expanded section at Planetlightworker.com? You might be pleasantly surprised.

Thank you for the work you do with the children and thank you for sharing with us.

Love and blessings,

Sharyl
